ART EDGARIAN/CHARLES UMSHIED SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

The Art Edgarian / Charles Umshied Scholarship is awarded twice a year in recognition of Art Edgarian and Charles Umshied who were two key SAHRMA contributors.

Art Edgarian former president of SAPMA (San Antonio Personnel Management Association), one of SAHRMA’s predecessors was dedicated to developing the human resource professional and students. In addition to his efforts at SAPMA, Art made a significant contribution to St. Mary’s University as the Director of Placement. As a result of his contributions, several students were able to locate that first “great job.” Charles Umschied, as a former St. Mary’s graduate, valued student participation with HR practitioners. He was instrumental in establishing a program in our association that allowed college students to spend time on the job with human resource managers to gain “hands-on” experience. Charles was also responsible for establishing the first student chapter of the American Society for Personnel Association here in San Antonio. The scholarship award is $250 dollars for each student selected. There will be one scholarship awarded in the Spring and one in the Fall.

All candidates must meet the criteria outlined in the application form in order to participate. To apply all completed submissions must reach the Vice President, Student Chapters by February 27, 2009 for the Spring scholarship and by September 25, 2009 for the Fall scholarship at the address listed below or via e-mail at student@sahrma.org.
